OPERATIONS MANAGER & PSYCHOTHERAPIST
Winthrop University, Class of 2023
Aniya Howard is a compassionate and purpose-driven therapist who brings heart, expertise, and intentionality into every session. She earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from Winthrop University in 2023 and specializes in faith-based therapy, solution-focused approaches, trauma care, and self-esteem work.
Aniya's therapeutic style is rooted in collaboration and empowerment. She develops personalized treatment plans that focus on emotional regulation, the development of healthy coping strategies, and the identification and restructuring of distorted thought patterns and unhelpful behaviors. Her ultimate goal is to equip clients with the tools they need to create meaningful, lasting change in their lives.
For Aniya, seeing clients "cross the finish line"—reaching their goals, overcoming obstacles, and stepping fully into their potential—is the driving force behind her work. She believes in the power of transformation, not just for individuals, but for families, relationships, and entire communities.
Aniya's clinical journey includes hands-on experience as a student therapist with Counsel with the Culture, a private practice known for its culturally-informed approach, and work in a high school setting alongside a school social worker at Columbia High School. These experiences have shaped her inclusive, supportive, and deeply empathetic approach to care.
She became a therapist because she couldn’t imagine doing anything else. With a natural inclination toward advocacy and empowerment, Aniya views therapy as one of the most personal and impactful forms of social change—helping people discover the strength within themselves and take ownership of their healing and growth.
Her favorite part of being a therapist? The people. Aniya cherishes the opportunity to work with clients from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences, learning from them as much as she offers in return.
When she’s not in the therapy room, Aniya enjoys relaxing at home with her husband and having fun, spontaneous dance parties with her daughter. On Sundays, she expresses her creativity and spirituality through music, singing and playing the saxophone at church. A few of her personal dreams include learning to play the piano and trumpet, traveling the world, and learning new languages to connect even more deeply with others.
